Cubs' Lester allows 9 runs, hurts lat

CHICAGO (AP) Chicago Cubs starter Jon Lester left Thursday's game against Cincinnati in the second inning with left lat tightness after allowing nine runs by the Reds.

Lester was replaced by Mike Montgomery after facing 11 batters in the inning and Cincinnati leading 8-0 with two outs. He exited after giving up a double to Eugenio Suarez and was charged with seven earned runs.

Joey Votto had a three-run homer in the outburst. Cincinnati wound up sending 13 men to the plate in the second. Suarez and Phillip Ervin each had a single and a double in the eight-hit burst.

2nd Tommy John for Arizona P De La Rosa

HOUSTON (AP) Arizona Diamondbacks reliever Rubby De La Rosa will undergo a second Tommy John surgery.

Manager Torey Lovullo made the announcement Thursday before the Diamondbacks play the Astros.

Twins' Perkins back from 16 months on DL

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Glen Perkins has finally returned to the Minnesota Twins, with the bonus of a playoff race and a bullpen in need of some help.

He's not the hard-throwing three-time All-Star closer he once was. He's just grateful for another chance to be on a major league mound after missing more than 16 months because of shoulder trouble.

Tribe 3B Ramirez hit in arm, exits game

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) Cleveland third baseman Jose Ramirez has left Thursday's game against Minnesota after getting hit by a pitch.

Ramirez was hit in the right forearm by a 93.1 mph pitch from Kyle Gibson in the top of the second inning. He kneeled a few feet down the first-base line and was quickly attended to by a trainer. He walked off holding his arm after a few minutes.

Rays give to Confederate statue removal

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) The three major professional sports teams based in the Tampa Bay area say they have "dedicated funds" to help remove a Confederate monument from the city.

The NFL's Buccaneers, NHL's Lightning and Rays of Major League Baseball issued a joint statement Thursday saying they're working with the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce because they're "recognizing that this monument does not reflect the values of our community."

Cardinals hoping to bring back Rally Cat

ST. LOUIS (AP) Rally Cat may be coming back to Busch Stadium.

The St. Louis Cardinals are taking claim to the now-famous cat that darted across the field during the Aug. 9 game against Kansas City, just moments before Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina hit a grand slam.

Judge orders arbitration in D-backs suit

PHOENIX (AP) A judge has refused to dismiss the Arizona Diamondbacks' lawsuit against Maricopa County over Chase Field but ordered the two sides to participate in proceedings intended to resolve the dispute without going to trial.

Superior Court Judge Karen Mullins' ruling released Thursday says the Diamondbacks' agreement for use of the county-owned stadium requires that the sides use arbitration to settle their differences.

Dodgers rally again as back bugs Darvish

LOS ANGELES (AP) The Dodgers won in - what else - dramatic fashion, scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning for their major league-leading 10th walk-off victory of the season.

Trailing 4-2, Yasiel Puig's two-run double drove in the tying and go-ahead runs to beat the Chicago White Sox 5-4 on Wednesday night for the Dodgers' second comeback win in two games.

BoSox rally by Cards on Betts' 2-run 2B

BOSTON (AP) Mookie Betts finally had a pitch he could drive and the Boston Red Sox pulled out anther last at-bat win in Fenway Park.

Betts lined a two-run double off the Green Monster with two outs in the ninth inning, capping a three-run rally that lifted the Red Sox to a 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night.
